This educational activity is supported by an educational grant from GlaxoSmithKline.

Program Description

The burden of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has grown substantially in the last several decades, and while the management paradigm for COPD continues to evolve, the treatment of COPD remains inadequate. The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) consistently updates management guidelines to reflect the latest advances and inform treatment selection; however, adherence to guidelines is suboptimal. This often leads to comorbidities being under appreciated, inappropriate treatment selection, and poor communication among members of the care team.

This CME Outfitters Live and On Demand features both pulmonology and primary care physicians and utilizes an interactive, animated 3-D model of the lung to help bridge the knowledge gap regarding evolving COPD guidelines and optimal treatment.

Intended Audience

Pulmonologists, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and pharmacists.

Educational Objectives

At the end of this CME/CE activity, participants should be able to:

  • Apply evidence-based treatment guidelines to treatment decisions for patients with COPD.
  • Select inhaled maintenance treatment for patients with COPD based on various factors including clinical evidence, delivery device, symptomatology, and exacerbation risk.
  • Employ multidisciplinary approaches to optimize the continuity of care between primary care practice and pulmonology clinics for patients with COPD.
