Program Description

Many clinicians may not fully appreciate the impact that the negative symptoms of schizophrenia—such as apathy, anhedonia, and social withdrawal—have on patients’ functional capacity and quality of life. Recognizing these symptoms and the burden they represent is a critical first step in treatment, as is understanding the rationale for and appropriate uses of current and emerging treatments.

Intended Audience

Psychiatrists, primary care physicians, advanced practice registered nurses, and physician assistants who care for patients with mental health disorders in psychiatric or primary care settings

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Recognize the burden of negative symptoms of schizophrenia
  • Identify the rationale for current and emerging treatments for bipolar depression and schizophrenia

Conflict Of Interest Disclosure Policies

In accordance with the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support, Haymarket Medical Education (HME) and the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) require that individuals in a position to control the content of an educational activity disclose all relevant financial relationships with any commercial interest. HME and APNA resolve all conflicts of interest to ensure independence, objectivity, balance, and scientific rigor in all their educational activities.
