Program Description

Psoriatic arthritis is a complex inflammatory disorder that requires multidisciplinary care in order to optimize outcomes. Because of related contributions of both skin and joint manifestations in the development, progression, and severity of PsA, enhanced collaboration between dermatologists and rheumatologists is necessary to optimize the diagnosis and treatment. Studies have shown that combined dermatology and rheumatology care can improve outcomes in patients with psoriasis and PsA, and this approach is being recognized as crucial to addressing common barriers that dermatologists and rheumatologists face in the management of this condition. This symposium overviewed the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of patients with PsA, including advances in therapy, and practical tips on the multidisciplinary approach and collaboration between dermatologists and rheumatologists that is necessary to improve outcomes.

Intended Audience

This activity is designed to meet the needs of dermatologists, rheumatologists, nurses/nurse practitioners and residents who treat psoriatic arthritis.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of the activity, participants should be better able to:

  • List practical tools designed to effectively screen or diagnose PsA in the dermatology and rheumatology setting
  • Define assessment strategies to evaluate PsA severity that incorporate both joint and skin manifestation in order to guide treatment
  • Develop individualized treatment strategies for patients with PsA based on the efficacy and safety of current and emerging pharmacotherapies
  • Identify effective methods for developing patient-centered care in order to improve adherence and overall outcomes in PsA patients
