Program Description

This enduring, web-based activity is focused on the assessment and management of health literacy and effective patient communication in the oncology setting.

Intended Audience

This activity will be developed for oncology nurses, advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners, nurse navigators, pharmacists, and other healthcare practitioners.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the effects of limited health literacy on adherence and patient outcomes
  • Implement techniques for effectively communicating with patients at all levels of health literacy
  • List techniques for overcoming challenges associated with low health literacy
  • Recognize the importance of self-management education interventions for empowering patients across the trajectory of cancer
