Program Description:
This activity is taken from the March 2010 issue of The Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. It includes the CME articles, "How to approach the physical examination of a shoulder injury" and “Use of mild therapeutic hypothermia to treat cardiac arrest." Please note that both topics are featured in the post-test.
Activity Objectives:
After taking part in this educational activity, participants should be better able to:
- Describe the general assessment of the shoulder joint including pertinent questions to ask in the history and assessment of range of motion
- Discuss the techniques used to evaluate the scapula, acromioclavicular joint, and the rotator cuff
- Explain how to evaluate shoulder laxity and instability
- Review causes of sudden cardiac arrest and the use of hypothermia in this setting
- Describe how to monitor therapeutic hypothermia and the potential adverse effects of cooling
- Discuss pharmacologic agents used with therapeutic hypothermia
- Describe cooling and rewarming techniques
