Program Description:

This activity is taken from the July 2012 issue of JAAPA. It includes the CME articles "Maximizing oral health in children: A review for physician assistants" and "Vasculitis: Diagnosis and treatment of blood vessel wall inflammation." Please note that both topics are included in the post-test.

Activity Objectives:

For "Maximizing oral health in children: A review for physician assistants":

  • Describe the concept of a dental home for children

  • Perform an appropriate oral health risk assessment and physical examination for children

  • Recognize effective preventive strategies and treatment for dental decay/caries as well as when a referral to a dental professional is appropriate


For "Vasculitis: Diagnosis and treatment of blood vessel wall inflammation":

  • Describe the pathophysiology of vasculitis and common manifestations of the primary forms

  • Apply the Chapel Hill criteria to classify primary vasculitides

  • Formulate a diagnostic plan for when the index of suspicion for systemic vasculitis is high

  • Discuss current treatments, including major toxicities and common adverse effects
