Program Description:

In developing rapport with chronic pain patients, it is not just what you prescribe—it’s how you do it—that builds trust.

INTENDED AUDIENCE:

Primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants

Activity Objectives:

Overall program objective: To improve the overall health of patients with chronic pain in disparate ethnic and racial populations.

After taking part in this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Evaluate the benefits and risks of traditional, complementary and alternative, and medically based emerging treatment options for chronic pain.

  • Identify cultural, ethnic, and racial differences and the needs of chronic pain patients in a particular practice and devise strategies to provide individual assessments of these patients.

  • Implement individually appropriate treatment regimens for patients with chronic pain, including use of effective pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies.
