Program Description:
Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) is common, distressing, and treatable via a variety of surgical and pharmacologic methods, each with benefits and drawbacks that make them more or less appropriate for an individual woman. This case study addresses HMB management in a woman who is averse to hormonal medications and has other strong preferences that affect treatment decisions.
This is Case 1 of three cases. To earn additional credit, please read:
Case 2: Heavy Menstrual Bleeding in a Woman with Fibroids, Anemia, and Plans for Future Pregnancy
Case 3: Heavy Menstrual Bleeding in an Obese Woman
Activity Objectives:
After completing this activity, clinicians should be better able to:
- Explain how to diagnose HMB.
- Categorize treatments for HMB according to their effect on fertility or patients’ needs.
