Program Description:
Maintaining glycemic control is difficult enough, but even more challenging with obesity—and a diet of mostly college cafeteria fare.
INTENDED AUDIENCE:
Primary care physicians (PCPs), nurse practitioners (NPs), and physician assistants (PAs)
Activity Objectives:
After participating in this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Initiate insulin therapy early and educate patients about the importance of regular A1C monitoring and medication adherence.
- Explain the potential micro‐ and macrovascular damage, cardiovascular risk, and diminution of beta‐cell function associated with elevated glucose levels.
- Identify barriers that exist in practice—including cultural, ethnic, and racial differences—that discourage clinicians and patients from initiating insulin therapy, and devise solutions for overcoming these obstacles.
