Program Description:
Breastfeeding, the nutritional gold standard for infants, is recommended for at least 12 months. However, breastfeeding rates clearly decrease rapidly during infancy, suggesting that new mothers may lack the support needed to overcome barriers to breastfeeding. Pediatric practitioners need to be kept abreast of current breastfeeding practices, recommendations for initiating breastfeeding in the hospital, and overall benefits of breastfeeding, including reduced risk for atopic disease and obesity in children.
